Medha Dixit Vellal is an Indian dancer and choreographer best known as an exponent of Bharatanatyam. She is an exceptionally talented dancer with extensive experience and remarkable background in different classical dance forms.
Medha is known to experiment with the format of traditional Bharatanatyam by using different techniques to showcase theme based productions based on novel stories and Indian mythology.
Her newness in anything she does, be it her picturesque dance productions or importing her distinct ideas on her journey of parenting or following a chemical free lifestyle, have been described as 'path breaking' by many.
Medha began her journey of Bharatanatyam at the age of 6 under notable guru Kalashri Poornima Ashok. After her debut onstage performance - Arangetram, in 2002, Medha continued learning dance and its various forms.
With professional education that include masters in psychology and vidwath in Bharatanatyam, Medha’s congenital passion towards dance persuaded her with a PG Diploma in Choreography at Natya Institute of Kathak And Choreography [NIKC] under the guidance of Guru Dr. Maya Rao and an MFA in Bharatanatyam from Sastra University under Dr Padma Subramanyam.
An A grade Doordarshan artist, Medha prudently holds certification in Dance therapy and Cultural analysis and has also worked as a consultant dance educator at Valley school (KFI) and Pramithi School.
Medha’s dance career spans over two decades and she has made a mark as a solo performer at Narthana keerthana, Khajaraho dance festival, Rangayaama Art festival, Bangalore; Mani Academy National Youth Festival; Rajarajeshwari Music and dance festival ‘Bhavanotsava’ conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan; Nrityabhushana Dance Festival; ‘Ankura’ Dance Festival of Karnataka Nrityakala Parishat; Cultural program by ICCR; Indian Institute of World culture; Dharmasthala – Laksha Deepotsava; Hampi Utsava. She has also been a part of Nrityanjali dance ensemble, Natya and Stem Dance Company and the list goes on.

Medha has also presented a paper on ‘Changes expected in the exam board’ in a seminar conducted by Bhushans dance academy. She has also presented a Lecture/Demo on ‘Neo-classical dance’ at Nrithyasammelana, Mangalore, organized by Karnataka NrithyaKalaParishat and delivered a lecture on ‘Aspects of Abhinaya in Indian Dance’ at the world dance conference, Spain.
A dance studio and workspace which Medha started in 2005 has now expanded to two branches – one in Whitefield and another in JP Nagar, Bangalore. With over 75 students from age 6, 50 years being the oldest, Svasti provides a holistic learning platform through dance.
